Fishing experts recommend eating more small fishes like anchovies. The 3 million metric tons of tuna which is caught for human consumption require about 60 million metric tons of fish to grow. These small fishes could not only feed the 3 major tropical tuna species which land on our plates, they could also feed us.
Fishing boats already catch thousands of tons of anchovies every year. Instead of being eaten by us, they are ground down into fishmeal and shipped halfway around the world to feed chickens, pigs and farmed fish. This is a huge waste, not to mention the pollution and the fuel consumed for the transport. So, let’s eat more anchovies, they taste delicious and are as good for our health as big fish.
