Greek salad

Ingredients (for 4 servings):

  • 6 really red tomatoes
  • 2 small cucumbers
  • 20 black olives
  • 200 gram feta (1 packet)
  • oregano
  • salt
  • 6 tablespoons olive oil
     

Method:

Wash the tomatoes, remove the white bits around the stalk and slice them into wedges. Put the wedges into a salad bowl. Peel the cucumbers, half them lengthwise and cut them into pieces 1 centimeter thick. Spread the cucumber pieces over the tomatoes. Cut the feta into cubes and arrange them on top of the cucumbers. Now place the olives over the feta. Sprinkle oregano and salt over everything. Pour the olive oil over the salad and serve immediately with some bread.

When Greeks eat this salad they dip the bread into the olive oil. Many Greeks consider olive oil as the elixir of life. They even pour olive oil over big slices of bread, sprinkle salt over the bread and enjoy their beloved oil in this way.
